Teaching is hard, but it can be even harder with toddlers. These small children are interested in the world that surrounds them. Everything they see, touch, hear and smell is new and exciting.
A really great way to teach toddlers about brushing their teeth is with a cola experiment. Place a hard boiled egg in a plastic cup and cover it with cola. Let the kids predict what they think will happen to the egg. As the egg sits overnight, it will turn brown. Remove the egg carefully the next day and explain to them that this is what can happen to their teeth. Proceed by showing them how to brush by using a toothbrush and paste on the side of the egg to remove the color build up.
Discrimination is a difficult subject with any child, but can be made into an interesting lesson for three and four year old kids. By decorating gingerbread cookies, you can explain to them that everyone may be different on the outside, but the inside is still the same.
Science can be more fun when it is hands on. Taking these small toddlers outside to discover the world around them may not be easy, but can be interesting. Their reactions on learning about grass, trees, and even bugs can be very humorous.
Though some kids may not take to it easily, math can be made into an exciting activity. Learning to count using fingers, toes, and different ways to measure needs to be inviting to the children. They need the structure to understand the different forms of math, but it has to appeal to their interests at the same time. Use things they are familiar with: blocks, cars, even crackers can work for counting, adding and subtracting.
Finding things for children to do that does not involve television is very simple. Because their interest and attention spans are short, television shows can often seem boring to them. Many small children look to find other things to do while they are supposed to be watching the screen.
Working with crafts give toddlers a hands on experience. This, along with different forms of science, math, and even touchy subjects such as discrimination can be taught to toddlers. Every child is different, comes from a different background, and has different parenting skills applied to them. Keeping this in mind will allow you to be able to teach and give them the most out of everything they learn.
